Tim Johnston is an innovative technology leader with a strong commitment to sustainability and deep expertise across the entire lithium-ion battery materials supply chain. With a wealth of knowledge and operational experience in the critical materials and battery industries, coupled with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Tim is focused on delivering a sustainable approach to lithium-ion battery manufacturing and recycling.
As co-founder of Li-Cycle, Tim has led the development of one of the largest lithium battery recycling companies in North America and Europe. Listed on the NYSE, and with offices and operations around the world, Li-Cycle supports the processing of manufacturing scrap and end-of-life lithium-ion batteries to produce battery grade specialty materials for reuse in new battery applications.
Prior to founding Li-Cycle in 2016, Tim specialized in project management and analysis for the global lithium business of Hatch, a leading engineering firm, for a wide range of primary lithium projects. Since 2016, Tim has continued to support the development of the lithium battery industry as co-founder of Li-Metal, a lithium metal and next generation battery technology company; as an investment committee member for Blue Horizon Capital, a NYSE-listed New Energy Transition ETF, and as a partner of Blue Horizon Advisors, which was established to help companies navigate the new energy transition.
Tim is a professional engineer with a degree from the University of Queensland’s Mechanical Engineering Program and a CFA charter holder.
